At his 4 month checkup, Samuel weighted 18.5 pounds. He was at the top of the charts for height/weight (they were proportional), and off the charts for head size! The pediatrician actually re-measured his head because it jumped up from 75th percentile at his 2 month checkup.
She said we could start feeding him baby foods, but I wanted to hold off for a bit. We went through a few weeks of checkups and supplements and fussing over Danielle's weight at 6 months because she was dropping down in percentile and the pediatrician wanted to rule out any medical reasons for her not gaining weight. I firmly believe that starting her on baby foods at 4 months revved up her metabolism and we wouldn't have had to go through any hassle if I had only given her breastmilk for the first 6 months.
Well, I didn't quite make it to 5 months because Samuel wanted to eat food so badly. True, he's at the puppy stage where he's trying to put everything in his mouth, but when he sits with us at dinner he opens his mouth and looks like he wants to try our food more than anything. So we gave him a taste of rice cereal at about 4 1/2 months.

A sleep story
So Samuel has not been sleeping good. AT ALL. There was a week where he slept through the night, and I think I posted about that, all happy. Yeah, that didn't last long. When I visited my sister and her family in Tennessee in early October (more about that as I finish catching up), he slept pretty decent, taking regular naps and getting up once at night to feed (he would go right back to sleep afterwards). Since then, he has been up several times a night, whether or not I feed him. Sometimes he is awake for an hour or two. Last night he was awake for almost 3 HOURS, ugh! So, a couple weeks ago (before the sleep thing was really wearing on me) I was up with him in the middle of the night. He was so perky that I decided to take a picture of him not sleeping. Every time I took a picture, it ended up like this:
It cracked me up that I was trying to take a picture of him looking wide awake and perky and he managed to close his eyes in almost every one. I think it was because the room was dark and the flash was bright. Anyways, I did manage to get a "real" photo by the end.

Samuel laughing
Samuel loves to look at the camera and he'll smile for it. But if I try to take a video, he suddenly stops cooperating! I wanted to catch him doing his belly laughs, and this video shows it a little. He's been laughing big since he was only 2 or 3 months old--I love it!
Catching Up--pics from late August
Samuel rolled belly to back tonight and I realized that, once again, I am super behind on blog posts. So I'm going to do my best to catch up, even if it means back-to-back posts. Some of these pictures may have been on Facebook, but I know not everyone is on there.
Here are some pictures of Samuel from right before he turned 3 months old:
